MySpace Australia has launched its online television channel, http://vids.myspace.com/, with a global concert by US band Death Cab for Cutie.
As the online social and music networking website takes on YouTube, MySpace has teamed up with traditional television networks such as the ABC and the BBC to bring their programs to Australian users.
The website also includes content from pay TV's Channel V and Fremantle media programs like Neighbours.
About 600 Sydney fans packed into the Oxford Art Factory to watch Death Cab for Cutie play a set for a potential global audience of 115 million online viewers.
"Death Cab for Cutie have that rare combination of indie credibility and huge popularity," said Rebekah Horne, vice president of MySpace Australia.
"They're rocking the world, they're hugely popular on MySpace and we're trilled to have them perform live at the launch of MySpace TV here in Australia."
According to Nielsen Online, Netview, in July 2008 there were 2.6 million Australians visiting MySpace.
