Collectors come in all shapes and sizes. Personally, I prefer those on the odd and eccentric end of the character scale, which makes tonight's instalment of the ABC's entertainment-cum-curiosity show one of its more routine episodes. Author and raconteur Max Walker explains his palpable enthusiasm for fountain pens and shares his very own anecdote about cricket legend Sir Donald Bradman. Next it's off to the Bradman Museum in Bowral for some prized Bradman memorabilia, including his first Test match bat, which is soon to go under the auctioneer's hammer. Yes, it's the centenary of The Don's birth. Did someone say there's a theme here? No doubt, the show will be topped and tailed with promos for other Bradman-related programs airing on the ABC this week. Cheap, cheerful, inoffensive and as comforting as a well-worn cardigan, Collectors is a smooth and well-oiled machine. It chugs along on the strength of its affable host, Andy Muirhead, and three presenters, who not only know their stuff but seem to enjoy sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm.
