St George Dragons v Warriors
Sunday, WIN Stadium, 3pm
Referee: Shayne Hayne
The Dragons remain an unpredictable bunch. After losing two in a row, to the Sharks and the Tigers, they went on the road against Brisbane and looked to be in big trouble again, when they trailed 12-0. But then came the revival, and a 24-20 win. As it turned out, that win kept them in the top eight. They are seventh, but would have been ninth had they lost. So are they a genuine top-eight team or not? At their best, they certainly are, but since a seven-match winning streak they have won only two out of six. It is time for them to stand up now, with the finals not far away. They should be aiming to finish around fifth, and give themselves a good chance of survival even if they were to lose a game on the road in the first week of the finals.
But the Warriors will be tough. They have won six of their last seven games to finally break into the top eight, but in the event of ties to decide positions they are extremely vulnerable, because of their poor points for-and-against differential. They need to win two of their last three to make sure of qualifying. So it's the desperation stakes. The Dragons deserve favouritism at home, but the Warriors are in with a big chance. Expect them to make a real contest of it.
