South Sydney v Canberra

August 21, 2008

Sunday, ANZ Stadium, 2pm

Referee: Jared Maxwell

The Rabbitohs are one of the most dangerous teams in the competition at the moment. They can't make the finals and they can't run last, so they can enjoy their football without being under enormous pressure. It worked for them last week, when they beat one of the competition's heavyweights, Manly. The Sea Eagles made a run at the Rabbitohs in the second half, and most people would have expected them to keep going and win, but the Rabbitohs were never going to go back into their box. They are enjoying their football and they are going to keep trying things.

Even though they are in the thick of the finals race, Canberra have been maintaining a similar attitude. Whether the pressure finally starts to hit them, we will have to wait and see, but we certainly shouldn't expect them to start playing a game of percentages. The key thing that should be pointed out, though, is that they are not nearly as potent in attack away from home as they are at home. That factor puts the Rabbitohs in with a realistic chance in this game. The Raiders deserve favouritism. They have been in superb form. But, while the Raiders have won seven of their last 10 games, so have the Rabbitohs.

The Raiders have got a hell of a lot to play for, but the Rabbitohs are a loose cannon, which, if pointed in the right direction, could go boom.
